Polaris Sensor Technologies, Inc. (Polaris) is seeking a self-motivated Engineer/Scientist to lead a multidisciplinary team to develop electro-optical systems for commercial and military applications in the field of hypersonics (Mach>5). The hypersonic environment is stressing for the seeker window and surrounding airframe These systems may consist of custom optics, electronics, software, firmware, and/or mechanics to deliver a fully functioning prototype for test and demonstration. Polaris routinely develops new sensor technologies and has well-established development processes.
This position is in Huntsville, Alabama. Compensation for relocation expenses may be available.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Manage a multidisciplinary team to design, build, analyze, test and deliver electro-optical systems
- Assist in developing algorithms for imaging systems
- Serve as the Polaris interface to customers
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
- Develop, implement, and oversee/participate in basic data gathering and/or testing procedures
- Develop comprehensive program reports
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical area.
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams to achieve successful development of new technologies, preferably electro-optical systems.
Basic Qualifications Required:
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
- Experience managing the technical and programmatic aspects of projects
- Experience planning and performing system and field tests
- Expertise in optical design (i.e. ZEMAX) is a plus
- Image processing algorithm development experience (e.g., MATLAB, or Python) is a plus
- Systems engineering experience
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).
The salary will depend upon the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
